Bodrum Castle opened for visitors

The most part of Bodrum Castle, which closed since October 2017 opened to visitors on 18 May World Museum Day.

Over a year and a half ago Bodrum Castle closed for restoration work. The first phase of Bodrum Castle’s reconstruction completed, museum opened to visitors. Fortress visitors will be able to visit the Yassıada Shipwrecks Hall, Bozburun Shipwreck Exhibition Area and Kale Mosque. The terrace in the southern part of the castle and the stone artifacts in the central courtyard.

At opening ceremony attended Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Nadir Alpaslan, Muğla Governor Esengül Civelek, Bodrum Mayor Ahmet Aras, Bodrum Underwater Museum Director Tayfun Selçuk and other representatives and citizens. Muğla Survey, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Monuments, Hafize Bilge Özyer gives information about the fortress.

Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism browsing the castle, officials received information about the restoration. Alparslan, who made a statement to the press later, stated that they opened the 1st stage of the Bodrum Castle. Bodrum Castle in the process of renovation for 2 years. It is one of the important works of the city and country. Located in a major tourism center such as Bodrum, closed castle made a serious deficiency in terms of tourism activities. It is a very important fortress, implemented museum function for over 60 years and a works from the historical times. The castle is a very large building, that’s why works could continue. Hopefully next year will complete the 2nd stage at the week of museums. After the second stage of the opening will opened the whole  castle and the museum.
