On the initiative of President Erdogan the Non-Smoking Car campaign began. In two weeks, thousands of drivers across the country were fined. Police brigades checked cars on certain routes using drones, identified “smoking” vehicles and wrote out a fine for smoking in the car.
Taxi drivers satisfied with this initiative
One of the taxi drivers, Ahmet Melih Uchar, said that he and his colleagues satisfied with this ban: “This offer was very good. Smoking prohibited in a taxi, now drivers of ordinary vehicles should also not smoke. People should feel more comfortable every day. I saw many accidents due to cigarettes, smoke escaping my eyes, the road becomes foggy and an accident. This innovation is very good. ”
For drivers, this innovation came as a surprise and the reaction to it was mixed. Someone tore up fines, and someone agrees that smoking while driving is harmful to health and others.
How much does it cost to smoke in a car?
In 2019, a fine for smoking is 153 Turkish lira.
