Cell phone operators ‘to inform state about location of tourists’ in Turkey

According to a new regulation approved by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism mobile operators will inform the government about where local tourists go and in which hotels they stay. The decision should enter into force in 2020, according to the daily Cumhuriyet report on Nov. 5.

The Ministry expected to introduce a regulation to control the local tourists traveling in Turkey. It will obliged Turkish cell phone operators to inform the government where tourists travel and what city and hotel they stay in.

As a part of the 2020 Presidential program mechanism should keep taps on local tourists who traveling within the country.

Critics raised concern about the fact that cell phone providers will provide the state with personal information about the tourists. No doubt that it is in violation of human rights.
