Muğla Milas Bodrum Havalimanı
Officially named Milas Bodrum Airport (BJV), one of the busiest airports of the Aegean Region in Turkey. It opened to international traffic in 1997. Located between the two important cities of ancient Caria named Milas (Milassos) and Bodrum (Halicarnassus). Within the province of Muğla city. Having derived its name from the vast historical heritage of the two towns. The airport serves over two million people every year with one international and one domestic terminal. Two important issues are significant in the project design and the construction processes and discussed for a long period. The first concern the name which the airport is given. After long debates the airport has given both names of the two towns as a solution. Today, Bodrum is a preferred holiday destination with its historical and archaeological values. And Milas is a residential area with its prominent cultural heritage and environmental richness.
So, the history of Milas-Bodrum Airport stands back 01.04.1997 when it started operations in one building which used as the domestic terminal at the moment. Since the construction of the international terminal in April 1998 it served domestic and international air traffic with two different terminals. All thus due to the increasing passenger capacity, bids for a new international terminal building accepted on a build-operate-transfer model and the present international terminal used as domestic terminal after the completion of the construction.
