Ruins of Karyanda
In addition to Halicarnassus, there are at least twelve ancient cities on the peninsula. One of them is the Lelegs city of Karyanda, today it is a kind of open-air museum. In ancient times, the city was a minor polis, the basis of the economy was fishing and trade. Historians suggest that at some point in the local people moved from the mainland to the island, known today as Büyük Ada. Or, as a result, the coastal city could be on the island after an earthquake.
Some guidebooks describe Karyanda as the main historical landmark of the Türkbükü resort village. And this is despite the fact that only insignificant fragments of ancient buildings have survived. Several circular structures, most likely tombs preserved here. Also, you can still see the remains of a Byzantine church on the east side of the hill.
